What ages do you teach?
Ages 18 months through young adults.
Do you have a dance team?
Yes. Howell Academy’s dance team, known as the “Diamond Dancers” is composed of dancers ages 5 to 18. These dancers demonstrate special qualities of creativity and performance ability. They are also offered many performance opportunities from the studio to enhance their dance experiences in addition to competitions. For more information about becoming a part of the team, please contact us.
Do I have to participate in the dance recital?
Everyone is welcome to participate in our end-of-the-year recitals showcasing your child’s hard work and talents! This provides both a fun and rewarding experience for the whole family and builds on self-esteem and confidence! It is highly recommended as a part of the students dance education experience but is not mandatory.
What dance style will my young child participate in?
To set the proper dance foundation, Howell Academy offers all our young student’s combination classes that include Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. Each subject offered in the combination class provides students with the experience and knowledge they need as they can continue to grow.
Do I need to take ballet?
Ballet is the basis on which all dance styles build upon. Additionally, ballet class taken in conjunction with other forms of dance will assist students in accomplishing dance goals quicker. Ballet training is necessary to successfully accomplish more advanced level movements in most dance styles.
What if my child is not interested in Ballet?
Hip Hop and tumbling are dance skills that can still be learned and accomplished without ballet training. As a child progresses in dance they can develop an interest and find the additional importance of Ballet classes. Students are welcome to try a ballet class any time.
Can my child take multiple classes per week?
Depending on their love for dance, a student may decide to enroll in more classes. Like any sport or art form; the more you train the more you achieve, however, students of all ages reap great rewards if only taking 1 class per week.
What will my child need to wear for dance class?
The dress code varies based on the age of the dancer and the style of class they are enrolled in.
If there is bad weather, how will I know if classes are canceled?
The studio may not necessarily close for inclement weather, regardless if area schools are closed, since many times roads are clear and safe by the time our classes begin. If in doubt call the studio one half hour prior to your class to verify if we are open or not. You can also check out our Facebook for closing information.
